Virginia: 1-Year Warranty for New Builds

In Virginia, every sale of a new home includes a statutory warranty protecting buyers when problems surface after move-in or after title transfers.
The seller guarantees that, when title transfers or possession begins, whichever comes first, neither the seller nor agents know of unacceptable structural defects.
That protection also covers fixtures, as long as the issue would be considered unacceptable under industry standards at the time the buyer takes ownership.
Virginia sellers also guarantee the home was built competently, in a workmanlike manner, and in line with accepted industry standards overall for buyers.
The warranty lasts one year from the earlier of title transfer or possession, giving buyers a clear window to raise qualifying construction concerns.
